Man those hours suck. To buy badges, or not buy badges....... I'd be able to help Saturday morning and all of Sunday. We wouldn't even get up to the con until probably 9 or 10 Friday though. Do they offer single day badges?

Also, and I mean I know your hands are kind of tied here, but I think you should be putting more pressure on the con here. I would be making in abundantly clear, to the point of almost being rude, that you have people that don't want to have anything to do with the rest of the con, simply assist in boffer room. I don't care about the viewing rooms or vendors or panels, I just want to assist in the hitting of people with foam. They assume that whoever is helping is enjoying the con as well, I hate cosplay with a passion and would rather punch through most con people than talk to them, this is obviously not the case. But the fact that I have to volunteer to buy a badge just to volunteer is ridiculous, and I would love to have the e-mail address of the person that I could express that to.
That being said, I do, because I love foam fighting and I love you guys, and I love madison. The more foam fighters in Madison the better. But it's unacceptable.

Perhaps you shouldnt go. If you dislike what the con is for then perhaps youll give off that vibe and drive people away. It would be like Peregrine helping demo at a Frat party.

I'm not willing to go so far as to jeopardize having a great chance to recruit at a local con because someone doesn't want to buy a pass.
I spoke with him before and he said his hands where tied. I will be calling him again in a day or two to tie up loose ends, and planed to talk to him once again about it.

Here are the badge prices for the convention:
All-Con $30 Day Pass (Friday, Sunday) $15 Day Pass (Saturday) $20
Day passes are available for those who do not wish to spend the entire weekend.

Hey, this isn't my first rodeo and we all have to demo for people we don't particularly like.
Demoing is like helping people move. One person, and often one realm, can not and should not do it alone. Also, the more people that help, the smoother it is. I understand, I'm offering to help and then complaining about it. I understand my slight. But I'm driving 200 miles to demo at a con that I'm not interested in attending. I assume the reason they want us to buy badges is because once we're in the boffer room we're in the con, and we can go do con things, and they probably because they think their con is awesome (and I don't blame them for that) assume we WANT to do con things. Like they're see us as trying to get free badges out of it. Give me a badge that explodes if I leave the boffer room and the route to/from. And I'll admit, if I have to buy a badge I'm gonna go check out the minis room, you know, I AM going to spend time at the con if I HAVE to buy a badge. There is no part of my brain that sees the logic, so I assume they just must not understand where you're coming from. They asked you guys to attend, you didn't approach them, you have the power. I have a real job, I could give a shit about $15, it's the principal.

Principle. Unless you're talking about a school adminstrator or original investment.
The logic is they have so many free passes. The more free passes they give, the less paying people they get. The ydont know anyone so honor code dont work. Plus, maybe theres a capacity limit. Maybe the cons already crowded. Maybe they have to ask someone else for free passes. I dont know. But I'm betting it has something to do with any of the above. They probably wouldnt do it abstractly.

I can day pass it for Saturday.
Jimmy, I see where you're coming from on this one but it's obvious why they're limiting the number of free passes. From their perspective, the more volunteers we have, the more the task of demoing is distributed and hence the amount of free time each volunteer has to explore the con increases. Sure, that's operating on the assumption that all of us are interested in the con but we can't expect exceptions.
You're driving 200 miles to go to a con that you've admitted you largely despise the attendants of. I'm surprised you're still going out of your way to make this happen. Is it the side-boob? It must be the side-boob.

Actually Jimmy your wrong. I approached them to see if we could do the boffer room.
I am more than happy to have your help with this.
I deleted some other stuff because it was a little on the aggressive. Basically if you want to help thats great, but complaining about it just ticks me off.

I can very much see where Jimmy is coming from.
I can also see where the con is coming from and there is no easy answer to this.
Personally I have no interest in the con either but I know my presence there will help our realm. I am paying for a badge because I can afford it. Would I rather not have, absolutely.
Jimmy is a great person to have at demos, he knows how to talk to people (whether or not he enjoys it and that can be really rough) and he knows how to get people excited about Belegarth (and other hobbies). Having him at a demo is great whether or not he hates the rest of the con he loves Belegarth and let's all be honest that's why we're going.
Tulio, I doubt you are super interested in going to the con apart from the boffer room. I doubt anyone getting the free badges is. And if you are then maybe we should look again at who the free passes go to in the future.

Dont get me wrong, I will be excited for Jimmy to help us.
Kayle you make a good point about the passes. It would make more since to have the people who are mainly interested in helping out get the badges, where the people that would be going anyway would pay. Had to get this stuff together real fast for him and didnt have time to think about the best plan. I will make sure we are in contact with the realm much earlier to have more time to focus on the details.

So just heard back and they want to have us back. Sorry, from this quote I got the impression that they had said something along the lines of "You guys went off well last year, we'd like you to make our con more awesome." Which means that puts you in the position to make more demands. And honestly if it was just me I wouldn't care too much, but Galya is coming too (And maybe, just maybe, in cute girl pinky garb. ::fingers crossed: and 2 badges is kinda strong. And then with the small window of oppurtunity on Saturday to actually demo it just magnifies. We will probably buy a single day badge and demo Sunday, but I'm still debating. As long as we have to buy a single day badge, we might buy the weekend badge and help out Saturday, but I'll discuss it with Ms. Moneybags. I also want to take a moment and apoligize, it didn't occur to me that Rhun probably has some con folk, and some cos players. There are 3 kinds of cos players that I've run into: People that just like to dress up. Please the try to dress up as the most obscure shit and then look down on you when you don't know what they're from, and people who are insecure about themselves and dress up as super powerful characters that they are natural attracted to as a way to cover their own inadaquicies. I'm fine with the first example, and my problems with 2 and 3 aren't with cos play, but with any people who exhibit traits like that. I met a few cool people at geek kon last year. I met a lot of cheaters who were too bad ass to take hits, and I met a lot of people who totally knew what they were doing and were much more of an expert than me at sword fighting. When you demo, at ANY location, you're not going to like everyone. You have to look past the person and love the service for the sake of the people you're demoing for. I love to demo with Rhun (and have probably 6 or 8 times now) because I love the people in Rhun.

Is geek Kon really that bad? I fail to see how any geeky convention could be a bad thing..is everyone there socially inept?

In my expierence, for the most part.... yes? We don't have your smooth Canadian Geek influence down here. It's not really geek kon, for me, it's cons. I think I've said enough here, you can text me. But my phone is dead this morning.

What's the schedule of events? What time are we setting up shop Friday? Or did I totally miss that memo?
