Bamboo is the best non-horrifically expensive spear core in Bel, if you don't mind a limited lifespan. I would really, really love another good 10' bamboo pole or 10.
Bandpole is much more versatile, and an excellent core. Bo's right, it is widely used in Amtgard too (it's the core of one of Tar'get's poles in the advanced polearm SKBC video).

I like the idea of bamboo. I plan on playing a Monk in amtgard, and the company I'm starting is called Clan Kuma(japanese for bear) so it will work well with my persona. I've never fought with bamboo, or against it for that matter. But the people I play with don't hit near as hard as most of the Belegerth fighters I've sparred with. If nothing else I can always order a bandpole. I'm excited to see how it works out though. I am going to make it per Belegarth standards just because when I hit shields with it I want them to feel it; and I can use it when I spar with you guys. Using the noodle just isn't heavy enough imo.

I'd just give you the 10 foot pole, i want to get rid of it. Bamboo poles are a wonder to use.... they can be some fast mofos. I'll bring the 10 footer if you want it, and the 8 footer if you want to buy it. I really have no idea how much to charge, but now thinking about it, i might want to keep it incase i take a trip to the Frostlands sometime.
Which pole in the video are you talking about chicken? The one with the red tip is a sailboard mast, and i'm almost positive the speed poles are bamboo. The way he handles them they have to be, he's not that strong.
I used my 8 foot pole from spring of last year till now without any noticeable wear on the bamboo, its very thick walled. How i test whether they're good is hitting then against a tree 3 times as hard as i can. If they're good, then i use them. They're quite durable.

Sure Poo that's fine I'll take the 10' pole. I can always cut it down to 8'. I think a 10' would just be too long to be effective as a primary weapon solo.
Sidebar...what are the qualifications to be a Red Weapon in Belegarth again? In Amtgard its 3' of solid striking edge, and must be 5' overall in length. There's no weight restrictions. I know there's a weight restriction on reds in Belegarth.

Yeah I rechecked Amtgard rules and 1/3 of the overall length of the has to have padding. So in essence I'll have the 10' weapon with a 4' blade. Red for Belegarth and red for Amtgard. Although there's a slight disadvantage as a soloer I should be fine with any shield type at my side.

Well then if you just want a great weapon for amtgard, the 10' is already built. Its light as hell, and red. But will break if used for bel.

Ah I see. In that case I'll make it Amtgard only. To be perfectly honest I prefer the classic sword and board anyways when playing belegarth. And thanks again poo!

The way he handles them they have to be, he's not that strong. Have you met the guy? He's no hercules but he's no push over either. Just sayin. And I'm pretty sure Ben said the red one is actually a pole vault pole but I could be mistaken.

Yeah, I may have heard that only in my head or something. I thought I remembered that one was a pole vault pole and one was bandpole, but maybe not. Neither of them *looks* like bamboo in any case.

I know for a fact that the red one is a sail board mast. And the shots that he throws with that speed pole of his, there's no way its a bandpole. Like i said, he's not that strong.

They're not that heavy, but they're not bamboo type light. You can swing a good amtgard speed pole around with one hand without trouble.
